AAPPSPA Position Statement

The AAPPSPA Board of Directors is aware that revisions to CPT code 92507 are currently under review through the AMA CPT process.  We recognize that this is a significant development for private practice speech-language pathologists and for the patients we serve.  (For additional information please see: https://www.asha.org/news/2026/update-on-cpt-code-92507-valuation-review-underway/)

Private practice SLPs play a critical role in delivering accessible, individualized care across the lifespan. Any changes to coding and reimbursement structures must appropriately reflect the complexity, intensity, and value of these services, as well as the realities of operating a sustainable private practice.

We believe that private practice clinicians and owners should have their perspectives represented during the CPT revision process.  AAPPSPA is actively engaged in ongoing communication with relevant stakeholders and will continue advocating for the unique clinical and operational realities of private practice.

As this situation evolves, there will be limitations on the details we are able to share. However, members can be assured of the following:

  • We are actively monitoring developments within the AMA and CMS processes.
  • We are communicating with appropriate organizations to ensure private practice perspectives are represented.
  • We are identifying opportunities to participate constructively in next steps.
  • We will provide updates and practical analysis to members as information becomes available and shareable.
  • We will continue gathering input from private practice owners to inform AAPPSPA’s advocacy efforts.

AAPPSPA remains committed to protecting the viability of private practice and ensuring that policy decisions reflect the realities of the clinicians who deliver care in these settings every day.

We encourage members to remain engaged and to share feedback with the Board so we can continue representing the collective voice of private practice effectively during this next phase.
